The Real Costs of Hiking The A.T.
One of the most important things a potential hiker will think about is the cost of hiking the trail. Obviously, people have different outcomes depending on their lifestyle, standards of (mid-hike) living, and length of journey. Most forums and hikers will tell you to plan on spending $1,000 a month for food, lodging, and miscellaneous expenses.
The information below is solely pertaining to expenses I incurred while on the Appalachian Trail, beginning at mile zero on April 4th, 2014 and ending 2,185.3 miles later at the summit of Katahdin on the 26th of July. Do keep in mind, your mileage will vary, but many people have expressed interest in my costs, so here they are, broken down into a few easy (and relevant) categories. Total A.T. Thru-Hike Expense: $2,101.10
Restaurants: $615.51 Resupplies: $864.80 Post Office: $45.96 On-Trail Gear Purchases: $199.92 Entertainment: $31.50 Lodging: $203.85 |
